Evelyn Marie Gunden

Dec. 23, 1933-Feb. 5, 2013

GOSHEN —  Evelyn Marie Gunden, 79, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday at 6:06 a.m. She had been residing at Greencroft Goshen Health Care.

She was born Dec. 23, 1933 in Princeton, Ill., to Lloyd and Erma Rocke. Evelyn graduated from Tiskilwa High School and went on to receive an Associate’s Degree from Goshen College.

She is survived by a younger brother, Vern (Barbara) Rocke of Fredricksburg, Va.; five children, Kent Paul Gunden, Sherri Lu Shon (Delmar) Gunden King, Dennis Jay (Kimberly) Gunden, Carla Gunden and Marla (Dennis) Peak, all residing locally. The loves of her life were her seven grandchildren, Christopher (Jenna), Nathan, Anthony (Natalie), Joseph, Lauren, Elizabeth, Lindsey and four great grandchildren, Payton, Kade, Brielle and Gabrielle.

She was a member of Belmont Mennonite Church and retired from Mennonite Mutual Aid after years of service.

She volunteered at Goshen General Hospital and served on the board of the Mennonite Disabilities Committee. Evelyn loved traveling and watching sporting events, especially football.

A private family burial will be held at Violett Cemetery on Friday.

Friends are invited to visitation with the family from 4 to 8 p.m., Friday at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, Goshen.

An 11 a.m. Saturday Celebration of Life will be held at Belmont Mennonite Church, Elkhart. The Rev. Larry Rohrer, Rev. Mandy Yoder and Rev. Russell Jensen will preside. A lunch will follow and all are welcome.

Memorial contributions may be given to Mennonite Disabilities Committee or Belmont Mennonite Church Love Fund.
