Lydia Mae (Hochstetler) Stoltzfus

April 13, 1933-Dec. 5, 2012

HOWARD, Ohio — Lydia Mae (Hochstetler) Stoltzfus, 79 years, 7 months and 22 days, died Wednesday morning at her residence in rural Howard, where she had lived the past six years.

Lydia was born April 13, 1933 in Nappanee, Ind., the daughter of Levi R. and Tillie (Schmucker) Hochstetler.

On July 21, 1983, she married Nicholas Stoltzfus, who died Oct. 18, 2004.

She was a member of the Old Order Amish Church and she remained faithful until her death.

In 1969, she moved to Honduras to work in a children’s home, and it was there she adopted two boys, her sons, John Mark (Lisa) Hochstetler of Holmesville, and Robert Hochstetler, at home. She is also survived by a daughter, Millie (Joe) Eicher, Dixon, Mo.; 16 grandchildren; 10 brothers, Melvin (Esther) Hochstetler, Campbell Hill, Ill., Elmer (Mary) Hochstetler, Belle Center, Jonas Hochstetler, Bremen, Ind., Edward (Katherine) Hochstetler, Danville, Edwin (Emma) Hochstetler, Howard, Levi (Betty) Hochstetler Jr., Goshen, Ind., Rudy (Carrol) Hochstetler, Milford, Ind., Lamar (Elizabeth) Hochstetler, Nappanee, Raymond (Fannie Mae) Hochstetler, Butler, and Moses Lee Hochstetler, Nappanee; two sisters, Mary (Ura) Chupp and Esther (Lester) Helmuth, both of Nappanee; sister-in-law, Esther Hochstetler; and many nieces and nephews.

Lydia was preceded in death by her mother and father; her husband; her brother, John Henry Hochstetler; three infant brothers, Ervin, Mervin and Gilbert Hochstetler; sister-in-law, Amanda Hochstetler; and a grandson, Cephas Eicher.

Funeral services will take place Saturday at 9 a.m. at the Ivan Miller home, 20460 Nunda Road, Butler, with Nelson Kauffman officiating.

Burial will follow in Yoder Cemetery, Brown Township, Knox County, Ohio.

Visitation will be all day today at the Edwin R. Hochstetler home, 19351 Nunda Road, Howard.
