Golan A. Yoder

Jan. 4, 1920-July 1, 2012

MIDDLEBURY — Golan A. Yoder, 92, formerly of Shipshewana, died Sunday at Millers Merry Manor in LaGrange.

He was born Jan. 4, 1920 in Elkhart County, to Ira E. and Mary Viola (Mishler) Yoder. He was a graduate of Shipshewana High School.

On Dec. 21, 1940, he married Beulah B. Mishler in Shipshewana. She died March 7, 2005.

Surviving are two daughters, Virginia (Keith) Gingerich of Goshen, and Lucinda (Les) Bontrager of Middlebury; four sons, Ronald D. (Sharon) Yoder of Avon Park, Fla., James D. (Sandra) Yoder of Goshen, Gary D. (Cindy) Yoder of Bristol, and Joel D. Yoder of Buffalo, N.Y.; 13 grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren; a sister, Norma (Stanley) Mishler of Goshen; two brothers, Pete (Florence) Yoder of Middlebury and Merritt (Rose) Yoder of Venice, Fla.

He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; a grandson, Matthew Yoder; two sisters, Kathryn Kilmer and Lois Yoder; and a brother, Ralph Yoder.

Golan was a farmer for many years and volunteered all his life for any storm disasters. He retired from Holly Park Mobile Homes and Gerring Industries. Golan’s true passion was miniature harness racing, training, racing and competing at various county fairs in Indiana, Ohio and Michigan and other organized racing.

Visitation will take place Thursday from 2 to 8 p.m. at Emma Mennonite Church, Topeka, where a funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. Friday. Services will be conducted by the Rev. Gene Hartman.

Burial will be in Forest Grove Cemetery, Middlebury.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Middlebury Food Pantry or Menno-Clinic India.
