The Rev. F. Wayne Lawson

Feb. 16, 1927-March 20, 2013

— GOSHEN — The Rev. F. Wayne Lawson 86, died Wednesday evening at North Woods Village, Kokomo, where he had recently moved.  

He was born Feb. 16, 1927 in Peru, to Lamoin and Ruth (Gehman) Lawson.

On June 2, 1951 he married Alene Statler. She died May 1, 1990.

Mr. Lawson is survived by three daughters, Ginny (Steve) Haney, Mount Morris, Ill., Karen (Tracy) Bricker, Kokomo, and Janet (Roger) Winder, Oldsmar, Fla.; six grandchildren, Ryan Haney, Goshen, Andrea (John) Kruse, Elkhart, Alison (Eric) Witmer, Indianapolis, Annette and Lisa Bricker, both of Kokomo, and Brianna Winder, Oldsmar, Fla.; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Phyllis Boettjer; and a brother, Ross Lawson.

A graduate of Peru High School 1945, Manchester College 1949 and Bethany Seminary 1952, he spent his life pastoring in the Church of the Brethren. He served as minister at Bethany COB, New Paris, Andrews COB, Huntington, Markle COB, Markle, Union City COB in Ohio, Monticello COB, Monticello, and was pastor of visitation at Goshen City Church of the Brethren until 2011.

He was a volunteer Red Coat for many years at Goshen General Hospital. He was also a member of both the Goshen Sunrisers and Milford Kiwanis clubs, serving as president for the Milford club.

Pastor Wayne will be remembered as an extraordinarily kind and gentle man.

Friends may call Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, Goshen, and one hour prior to the 10 a.m. funeral service Monday at Goshen City Church of the Brethren. The Rev. Bev Weaver and the Rev. Ginny Haney, daughter of the deceased, will officiate.

Burial will follow at Violett Cemetery, Goshen.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Goshen City Church of the Brethren or Camp Mack.
