Elizabeth ‘Betty’ Christner

Feb. 8, 1919-Feb. 2, 2010

ELKHART — Elizabeth “Betty” Christner, 90, died at 1:06 p.m. Tuesday at Elkhart Rehabilitation Center.

She was born Feb. 8, 1919 in LaGrange County, to James and Sarah (Spreuer) Powell. She was a lifetime area resident.

She was an alumni of Manchester College and taught elementary education in Scott, Concord and Goshen School Systems for many years.

She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association and the Elkhart County Campers Club. She was very active in First United Methodist Church for over 50 years, where she belonged to the choir. She enjoyed spending time with her family, knitting, traveling, camping and teaching.

She married Rufus Christner May 25, 1941. He died June 7, 1993.

She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Rebecca Christner, Goshen; granddaughter, Sarah Christner, Goshen; many nieces and nephews; and a sister, Katherine Hostetler, Shipshewana.

She was preceded in death by her son, Keith Christner, who died Feb. 24, 2006; and numerous brothers and sisters.

Friends may call Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, Goshen, where the funeral service will take place Friday at 10 a.m. Pam Kling, pastoral assistant of First United Methodist Church, Goshen, will conduct the service.

Burial will be in Violett Cemetery, Goshen.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
