Stanley Kuhns

Oct. 12, 1926-Feb. 2, 2010

Stanley Kuhns, 83, Goshen, died peacefully at 8:02 a.m. Tuesday at Goshen General Hospital.

He was born Oct. 12, 1926 in Manchester, Okla., to Samuel and Mary (Horst) Kuhns.

On Feb. 20, 1954, he married Viola (Vi) May Steiner. She survives along with three sons, Curt (and Carol) Kuhns, Manson, Iowa, Tim (and Denice) Kuhns, Sao Paulo, Brazil, and Gary (and Diane) Kuhns, Goshen; two daughters, Bonita (and Rex) Lengacher, Leo, and Cindy Kuhns, Farmington, Ark.; and 11 grandchildren, Christy, Stacy, Jeremy (Karen), Grant (Heather), Nicole, Jeff (Nicole), Jason, Timmy, Jared, Laura and Erin.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Mary; three brothers, Paul, Sam and Mahlon; three sisters, Mary Magdalene, Esther and Ruth; and a granddaughter, Rachel.

Stan was active in various Mennonite Churches in Wichita, Kan. and Elkhart. He was devoted to his family, friends and to Jesus Christ, his Lord. He enjoyed playing games, especially Rook, riding his bike and working on various projects in the Greencroft woodshop. He was happiest when surrounded by his family and inspired his wife, sons, daughters and grandchildren to have complete faith in Jesus. Prayer and scripture reading were a vital part of Stan’s daily life. He will be sorely missed by those who knew and loved him.

Visitation will take place Friday 3 to 5 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Greencroft Meeting House, Goshen.

A memorial service will take place Saturday at 2 p.m. at Prairie Street Mennonite Church, 1316 Prairie St., Elkhart. There will be visitation one hour before the service and a meal and time of sharing immediately following the service.

In keeping with Stan’s wishes, his body will be donated to Indiana University to help further medical research.

Donations made in memory of Stan will be used to support missions work in Brazil, Mexico and China.
