E. Lucile Stickel

July 11, 1924-Jan. 7, 2013

WAKARUSA —  E. Lucile Stickel, 88, died at 9:07 p.m. Monday at Miller’s Merry Manor, Wakarusa, with her family gathered around. Her death was due to complications from a 2005 car accident directly resulting in a stroke.

Lucile was born July 11, 1924, daughter of Roscoe and Grace (Overholser) Stickel.

She is survived by a brother, Arthur Stickel, Wakarusa; three sisters, Pauline Stickel Nusbaum, Goshen, Miriam Stickel Hawks and Ruby Stickel, both of Wakarusa; nephews, David Stickel, Randy, Bruce and Kent Nusbaum, Dan and Terry Hawks; and three nieces, Sandy Lechlitner, Renee Nusbaum and Debra Schmidt.

She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant brother, Robert Earl; sister, Dorcas Stickel; and sister-in-law, Bertha Martin Stickel.

She was employed as a service worker at Boris Smolers for 40 years after which Lucile worked at several day care centers where she was able to do her true life’s work — working with children. She also volunteered at both Miller’s Merry Manor in Wakarusa and The Window in Goshen for many years.

Lucile was a lifetime member of the Baugo Church of the Brethren, taught in the children’s Sunday school for 40 years and served on various commissions throughout the years. She was a camp counselor at Camp Alexander Mack.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Rieth-Rohrer-Ehret-Lienhart Funeral Home, 117 W. Waterford St., Wakarusa, where the funeral service will take place at 10:30 a.m. Friday. Pastor David Stackhouse of Baugo Church of the Brethren will officiate. Burial will be at Olive Cemetery, West Side.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Heifer Project International or Habitat for Humanity.

Online condolences may be shared with the family at www.rrefh.com.
