ELKHART — Conie “Dina” Polezoes, 85, passed away at 3:40 a.m. Tuesday at Hubbard Hill Estates.
She was born July 8, 1926, in Elkhart to James and Pota (Gramas) Polezoes.
She is survived by a sister, Helen Angelo of Mishawaka; two nieces, Marina (Mike) McQueary of Fishers, and Andrea (Jason) Knotts of Columbus; and a great-niece, Alexis Abshire of Columbus.
Her parents preceded her in death.
Conie graduated in 1944 from Elkhart High School and attended the Morris School of Art. Conie enjoyed all things Greek, including the annual Greek Festival at St. Andrews Greek Orthodox Church in South Bend. She was a cosmetics buyer for two years at Carson Pirie Scott in Chicago, then for Ziesel Brothers in Elkhart. She was an advertising sales representative for the Elkhart Truth for 13 years, then did the same for 22 years for radio station WTRC and WYEZ; manager of a personnel office for several years; an account executive with the former Mier-Lundquist Associates; a local advertising and public relations agency.
Her father, James, was born in Sparta, Greece, on July 4, 1887, emigrated to the U.S. in 1903 and became a U.S. citizen shortly after moving to Goshen in 1910. He opened a confectionary in Goshen and managed a theater. To express his gratitude to the “land of opportunity,” Polezoes ordered, from France, a bronze replica of Neptune, God of the Sea, and presented it to Goshen and Elkhart County in 1912. The statue still stands over the fountain on the front lawn of the county courthouse.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Walley-Mills-Zimmerman Funeral Home, Elkhart, where a wake will begin at 7 p.m.
Funeral services will take place at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. The Rev. George Konstantopoulos from the Greek Orthodox Church in South Bend will preside.
Burial will follow in Rice Cemetery, Elkhart
