ARCHBOLD, Ohio — Merrill G. Nofziger, 76, Archbold, passed away from melanoma late Tuesday at University of Michigan Hospital, Ann Arbor, surrounded by his family.
He was born Aug. 24, 1935, near Wauseon, Ohio. He was the son of Lloyd and Ilva (Beck) Nofziger.
He is survived by his wife, Marcile (Rupp) Nofziger, whom he married on Jan. 16, 1955. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children, Kurt (Connie Roth) Nofziger, Wauseon, Ohio, Kristine Nofziger, Oak Brook, Ill., and Kay (Jeff) Miller, Goshen; five grandchildren, Blake (Autumn) Nofziger, Findlay, Ohio, Haley Nofziger, Wauseon, Ohio, and Jared Miller, Joshua Miller and Hans Miller, all of Goshen, Ind.; one great-granddaughter, Kennedy Nofziger, Findlay, Ohio; four brothers and a sister, Richard (Jenny) Nofziger and Ron (Marlene) Nofziger, both of Archbold, Ohio; Dorwin (Ilene) Nofziger, Wauseon, Ohio, Jerry (Shari) Nofziger, Goshen, and Cheryl (George) Karagiorge, Perrysburg, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A lifelong resident of the Wauseon/Archbold area, he was a business partner of M & R Redi Mix Inc. in Pettisville, Ohio. Merrill was known for enjoying life to the fullest in all circumstances. He was an active member of the West Clinton Mennonite Church his entire life and served in many capacities, such as: Elder, Sunday school teacher, song leader, church choir and various quartets. He served on the following boards: Fulton County Health Center, Fairlawn Haven, Little Eden and WPOS FM. He was a member of Gideon International for many years and recently enjoyed volunteering at Care and Share in Archbold, Ohio.
A celebration of Merrill’s life will be held today at 5 p.m. at the West Clinton Mennonite Church, Wauseon, Ohio, with Pastor Jess Engle officiating. Internment will be in Pettisville Cemetery.
Visitation took place at West Clinton Mennonite church from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday and 2 to 8 p.m. Saturday.
