Dennis D. Woods

Feb. 27, 1952-Dec. 1, 2012

SYRACUSE — Dennis D. “Denny” Woods, 60, passed away unexpectedly Saturday at his home.  

He was born Feb. 27, 1952 in Goshen, to Glenn L. and Louise E. (Culp) Woods.

He was a lifetime Elkhart County resident, except for a short time spent in Idaho. He graduated from Northridge High School in Middlebury.  

He formerly worked at NIBCO in Goshen for nearly 25 years as a tool room supervisor and attended Calvary United Methodist Church in Syracuse. He was a former short-track race car driver at New Paris, Plymouth and Mottville Speedways and worked at various jobs at several other local tracks.

He was married July 3, 1983 to Beth Anne Savage in Syracuse. She survives.  

Also surviving are his daughter, Gabrielle (Brandon) Coward of Warsaw; five sons, Caleb (wife, Jayne) Woods, Steven (wife, Kara) Woods and Jerry (wife, Rebecca) Woods, all of Goshen; Dennis (wife, Jenifer) Woods Jr. of Baraboo, Wis., and  Chad Woods of Goshen; six grandchildren; his father,  Glenn Woods of Goshen; and four brothers, Michael (wife, Cynthia) Woods; Robert (wife, Vicki) Woods of Goshen; Glenn Woods Jr. of Palm Harbor, Fla., and Patrick (wife, Dawn) Woods of Goshen

He was preceded in death by his mother.

There will be a time of visitation today from 2 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St., Syracuse, where funeral services will take place Thursday at 10:30 a.m. The Rev. David Herr will officiate.

Burial will follow at Hire Cemetery in Ligonier.

Memorial bequests may be given to the Dennis Woods Funeral Fund, c/o Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St., Syracuse, IN 46567. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
