Phyllis G. Hellinga

Aug. 25, 1918-June 23, 2012

LaPorte —  Phyllis Gertrude Hellinga, 93, LaPorte, formerly of Starke County, died Saturday at Fountain View Terrace, LaPorte.

She was born Aug. 25, 1918, in Aldine, to Clara (Lucas) and Claude Mosher.

She married Gerald Hellinga Nov. 6, 1937. He preceded her in death.

She was a farm wife for more than 30 years. She also worked at Starke Memorial Hospital before retiring from Plymouth Parkview Hospital in 1983.

She is survived by a daughter, Gloria (George) Burton, Winamac; two sons, Roger (Sally) Hellinga, Middlebury, and Jerry (Lynn) Hellinga, McCordsville; a brother; six grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father, Claude Mosher; mother and stepfather, Clara and John Berg; a sister, Dorothy Smalley; brothers, John Berg and Ralph E. Berg; and a great-grandson, Daniel Field.

Friends may call Thursday, June 28, from 10 a.m. till the time of service, which is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Braman and Bailey Funeral Home, North Judson. The Rev. Ed Hasnerl will officiate.

Burial will follow at Round Lake Cemetery.
