Betty J. Leiter

April 8, 1937-June 30, 2012

WOLCOTTVILLE — Betty J. Leiter, 75, Oliver Lake, died Saturday at her residence.

She was born April 8, 1937 in Elkhart, to Albert and Rose (Anderson) Robinson. She was a 1955 graduate of Concord High School, Dunlap, and attended Ball State University.

She married Frederick A. Leiter June 5, 1955, at the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Dunlap. He survives in Wolcottville.

Betty and Fred moved to Bloomington and lived there for 27 years. Betty was employed at Indiana University in Bloomington until her retirement in September 1997. In 1983, they bought their lake home on Oliver Lake and began renovations; it became their permanent residence in 2004. Betty was a former member of the Psi Iota Xi and the Winnebago Travel Club. She loved spending time with her husband, children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband; two sons, Brent A. (Paula) Leiter of Brighton, Mich., and Spencer J. (Jill) Leiter of Bloomington; daughter, Jeannine Leiter Schwartz of Livermore, Calif.; two sisters, Alene (Charles) Cook and Rebecca (Paul) Hartman, both of Elkhart; grandchildren, Nathan A. Leiter, Chelsea E. Leiter, Shane A. Leiter, Bailey J. Leiter, Clark A. Leiter, Samantha M. Schwartz and Patrick V. Schwartz. She was preceded in death by her parents.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, 1911 S. Main St., Goshen, where a memorial service will follow at 7 p.m. The Rev. Ted Cripe will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be given to the American Heart Association, 6100 W. 96th St., Suite 200, Indianapolis, IN 46278.
