Andrew J. Chupp

NAPPANEE — Andrew J. Chupp, 93, died unexpectedly of natural causes at 6:50 a.m. Monday at his residence.

He was born Feb. 27, 1919, in Kansas, to Joseph C.S. and Amanda (Detweiler) Chupp. He lived most of his life in Indiana and moved to Nappanee in 1944.

He married Clara Slabaugh Dec. 30, 1947, in Nappanee. She preceded him in death May 12, 1994.

Mr. Chupp was a retired factory worker and a member of the Old Order Amish Church.

Surviving are sons, Eldon Chupp and Alvin Chupp, both of Milford, and Joseph (Sue) Chupp, Elkhart; daughters, Carol (Charles) Westerman, North Webster, Fannie Mae (Mervin) Miller and Katherine (Steven) Miller, both of Goshen, Ina (Vernon) Bontrager, Nakomis, Fla., Wilma (Lynn) Hively and Treva Chupp, both of Nappanee, and Erma (Bob) Stevens, Sarasota, Fla.; 17 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; brothers, John (Esther) Chupp, Nappanee and Harvey (Nancy) Chupp, Eden Prairie, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; a grandson; brothers, Ray, Joe, Rudy, Levi, Sam and Bill Chupp; and sisters, Mary Gingerich, Elizabeth Schrock, Anna Miller; and Lydia Garber.

Family and friends may call after 2 p.m. Thursday at the Darryl Hochstetler residence, 13991 N. 700 West, Nappanee, where funeral services will begin at 9:30 a.m. Friday. Bishop Howard Schwartz and the home ministers of the Old Order Amish Church will officiate.

Burial will be in Weldy Cemetery.
