GOSHEN — Carol B. Miller died at home Sunday following a brief illness. She was 93 years old.

She was born Carol Maxine Beller to Peter William and Mattie (Stalter) Beller on Jan. 3, 1920, near Flannigan, Ill.

She married Carl Samuel Miller on May 9, 1943.

She is survived by two sons, Peter W. (Marilyn Graber) Miller and Evan J. (Sara VonGunten) Miller, both of Goshen; sister-in-law, Katherine Miller, Dubuque, Iowa; six grandchildren, Joseph C. (Allie Johnson) Miller, Meghan (Eric) Fox, Benjamin C. Miller, Leena A. Miller, Jacob C. Miller, and Nora J. Miller; three great-grandchildren; numerous stepchildren and stepgrandchildren and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; her son, Carl S. Miller Jr.; and her sister, Doris Beller Dick.

Carol was a longtime member of College Mennonite Church in Goshen, teaching middle school Sunday school for many years. She spent more than 25 years teaching public school before and after raising her family. In her retirement years she became an accomplished watercolor artist.

She was a consummate hostess, welcoming all to her home. She was well read and loved a good debate about politics or theology. She actively cultivated relationships with persons with a wide range of views and backgrounds. Throughout her life, she was a mentor to many young people. She brought diverse people together and somehow managed to leave all involved feeling accepted and loved.

There will be a time of visitation 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the Koinonia Room of College Mennonite Church.

A memorial service will take place at 4 p.m. Friday at the church with the Rev. Phil Waite officiating.

Her body will be cremated. Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, Goshen, is assisting the family with arrangements.

Memorial donations can be given in her name to the College Mennonite Church Jubilee Fund, Pathways Retreat or Goshen Home Care and Hospice.

Online condolences may by shared at www.yoderculpfuneralhome.com.
