Vernon S. Yoder

GOSHEN — Vernon S. Yoder, 77, died at his home Sunday morning. He was diagnosed with lung cancer in July 2011.

He was born Dec. 19, 1934 in Hutchinson, Kan., to Solomon and Sarah (Stutzman) Yoder.

He married Jacqueline Douma Aug. 12, 1955. She survives.

He is also survived by a daughter, Wanda Kay (Kenneth) Weirich of Middlebury; three grandchildren, Matthew and Melissa Weirich and Candice (Dan) Niksch; two great-grandchildren, Parker and Noelle Niksch; and a brother, Lester (Lucy) Yoder of Goshen.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Debra Sue Yoder, who died in 1969.

He had worked for Steury Boat and Trailers and then Duplex Products until his retirement in 1997. Following retirement, he worked for Car-Quest in Middlebury.

A member of New Paris Church of the Brethren, he enjoyed camping and fishing, especially in Minnesota and formerly played fast pitch softball as a pitcher.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, Goshen, and one hour prior to the 10 a.m. funeral service Friday at New Paris Church of the Brethren. The Rev. Stan Godfrey will officiate.

Burial will follow in Violett Cemetery, Goshen. Memorial contributions may be made to the New Paris Church of the Brethren or Goshen Home Care and Hospice. Online condolences may be sent to www.yoderculpfuneralhome.com.
