Elizabeth M. Schrock

Jan. 6, 1920-Feb. 6, 2012

CARRINGTON, N.D. — Elizabeth M. Schrock, age 92, of Carrington, formerly of Goshen, Ind., died Monday at Golden Acres Manor.  With the hymn, “Softly and Tenderly,” accompanying her passage, she departed to eternal rest in Jesus Christ with loving family at her side.

Elizabeth M. Kuhns was born Jan. 6, 1920, the daughter of Menno M. Kuhns and Fannie (Miller) Kuhns. The oldest of 14 siblings, she grew up on a farm in the Amish community of Elkhart County, Ind.  Elizabeth was united in marriage to Albert D. Schrock Dec. 23, 1945. They made their home there until 2004, when they moved to Carrington.

Elizabeth’s faith was nurtured through regular Bible study, fellowship with believers and daily prayer. She lived her faith by showing kindness to family, friends and strangers. She enjoyed the Creator’s world, traveling widely with Albert and sharing his love for camping and fishing. They were active members of Wakarusa Missionary Church, Wakarusa, Ind., and Brenneman Memorial Missionary Church, Goshen, Ind.

Faithful in the smallest of details, she loved cooking, embroidery, reading, Christian music and gardening. She retired in 1985 from Kroger Company after many years in grocery retail, where she blessed customers and co-workers alike. Her strong faith displayed patience and hope in the face of life’s hardships.

Elizabeth is survived by her husband, Albert; one daughter, Dorothy (Jerry) Belile, Carrington; and a niece, Verda (Schrock) Fletcher, Elkhart, Ind., who resided with the family; three grandchildren, Jacki, Jerry (Michelle), and Julie (Jerry) Jensen; five great-grandchildren, Taylor, Erin, Adam, Hailey and Bellami; three brothers, Menno (Esther) of Trego, Wis., Bill (Carol), and John (Pat); and two sisters, Fannie Mae (Ralph) Stichter and Leona (Marvin) Stutzman, all of Elkhart County.

She was preceded in death by her parents and nine siblings.

Funeral services will take place Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Faith Baptist Church, Carrington.

Interment will be in Carrington Cemetery.

Memories can be shared with the family at www.EvansFuneralHomeND.com. Memorial gifts are welcome to the ministry of your choice.

Indiana is now the only state in the union that prohibits carry-out alcohol sales on Sunday. What do you think about Indiana’s current law?

It’s time to make the sale of carry-out alcohol legal on Sundays.
The state should continue to prohibit Sunday carry-out alcohol sales.
I really don’t care one way or the other.
