Joy B. Miller

March 21, 1927-Feb. 10, 2012

NAPPANEE — Joy B. Miller, 84, 802 S. Elm St., died at 3:15 a.m. Friday at Courtyard Nursing Home, Goshen, where she had been admitted four weeks ago.

She was born March 21, 1927 in Bourbon, to Arthur and Mae D. Lutes Sechrist.  

She married Harold Marvin Miller May 13, 1951, in Nappanee. He preceded her in death Aug. 20, 1987.

Mrs. Miller was a graduate of Etna Green High School and a lifetime resident of this area.

She retired in 1987 after 23 years with the United States Postal Service. She was the first woman hired at the Nappanee Post Office. She also worked as a seamstress.

She attended the Bremen Missionary Church and was member of the Nappanee American Legion Auxiliary. Joy loved her family and enjoyed crocheting.

Mrs. Miller is survived by daughters, Sandy (Montel) Tusing, East Germantown, Cookie Peregrine and Patricia (Doug) Clark, both of Etna Green, Kathy (Denis) Snyder, Syracuse, and Tracy Lynn (Tim) Miller, Nappanee; a son, Harold Marvin (Christine) Miller II, Camby; 19 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Karen Jo Altizer; a great-great granddaughter, Sierra Altizer; and brothers, Russell, Lamar and Max Sechrist.

Family and friends may call Monday from 2 to 8 p.m. at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee, where funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. Tuesday. The Rev. Gary Hinkle, pastor at Bremen Missionary Church, will officiate.

Burial will be in Stony Point Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be given to American Diabetes Association.
