Mary K. Bontrager Miller

Nov. 16, 1921-May 8, 2012

GOSHEN —  Mary K. Bontrager Miller, 90, formerly of Middlebury, died at 3:30 a.m., Tuesday at The Maples at Waterford Crossing, Goshen.  

She was born Nov. 16, 1921 in Elkhart County, to Joe and Lydia (Miller) Slabach.

On Jan. 22, 1942 she married Amos M. Bontrager. He died April 30, 1971.

On March 29, 1980, she married Elmer D. Miller. He died Oct. 1, 2011.

She is survived by a daughter, Janice (Nate) Hochstetler of Sioux Lookout, Ontario; six sons, Lloyd Bontrager and Marvin (Beth) Bontrager both of Goshen, Calvin (Shirley) Bontrager of Dowagiac, Mich., Dale (Katie) Bontrager of Goshen, Richard (Sue) Bontrager of New Paris, and James (Pam) Bontrager of Goshen; 14 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; 16 stepgrandchildren; 27 step great-grandchildren; three stepdaughters, Laura Miller of Goshen, Elsie (Atlee) Hostetler of Holmesville, Ohio, and Grace (Henry) Schrock of New Paris; three stepsons, Duane (Lois) Miller of New Paris, Marion (Teresa) Miller of Union City, Ohio, and Elmer Jr. (Carol) Miller of Goshen; three sisters, Velda (Lloyd) Miller, Edna (Vernon) Schmucker and Annabelle (Jonathon) Mast all of Goshen; two brothers, Floyd (Jane) Slabach of Fort Wayne, and Joe Slabach of Elkhart.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; five sisters, Josephine Mast, Arlowene Borkholder, Ruby Gingerich, Pauline Weirich and Ida Mae Mast; two brothers, Freeman and Robert Slabach; and a daughter-in-law, Gloria Bontrager.

She was a member of Pleasant Grove Mennonite Church, a homemaker and worked as a clerk at Millers Orchard, Nappanee.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Pleasant Grove Mennonite Church, C.R. 38, Millersburg.

Family and friends may gather at Bethel Cemetery, Nappanee, for a graveside service at 9:30 a.m. Saturday. A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. Saturday at Pleasant Grove Mennonite Church where services will be conducted by the Rev. Randall Riegsecker and son-in-law of the deceased, Nate Hochstetler.

Memorials may be given to Pleasant Grove Mennonite Church for mission projects.  Miller-Stewart Funeral Home, Middlebury, is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be sent at millerstewartfuneralhome.com.
