Wilbur “Pete” Myers, 83, Kingston Court, Goshen, formerly of Sycamore Court and Mount Vernon Drive in Goshen, died from chronic pulmonary obstruction disease Monday at 7:40 a.m. at Courtyard Healthcare, Goshen, where he had been a patient four days.
He was born in Goshen Dec. 18, 1926, to James “Roy” and Miriam (Flory) Myers.
He served in the U.S. Army in the Pacific during World War II and was discharged in 1946. He was a watchmaker who owned and operated Myers Clock Shop. Prior to that, he worked 28 years at Sorg’s Jewelers. He was a member of West Goshen Church of the Brethren and Elkhart County Exchange Club. He volunteered as a Red Coat at Goshen General Hospital.
He married Margaret “Peg” F. Richards July 24, 1946, in Manila in the Philippine Islands. She died June 16, 2005.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Beer, whom he married April 19, 2006, in Goshen. Other survivors include his daughter, Mary Ellen (James) Jessup, Excelsior, Minn.; sons, Douglas L. (Dixie) Myers, Middlebury, Wilbur “Lee” (Carm) Myers Jr., Longmont, Colo., and Stephen R. (Jo) Myers, Jacksonville, Fla.; brothers, Leonard “Jim” Pauline Myers, Big Rapids, Mich., David (Judy) Myers, New Paris; stepson, Rick (Barb) McGowen, Milford; stepdaughter, Jeanine (Herschel) Suitors, New Paris; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; and three stepgreat-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Mary Katherine “Kate” Stutsman, Emma Mae Bates and Barbara Ganger.
Friends may call Thursday from 3 to 8 p.m. at Rieth-Rohrer-Ehret Funeral Home, Goshen, where the funeral service will take place Friday at 10 a.m. The Revs. Otto Beer and Dave Soliday of Living Gospel Church will lead the service.
Burial will be in West Goshen Cemetery.
