James D. Fisel

LAGRANGE — LAGRANGE — James D. Fisel, 86, died Thursday, at Life Care Center of LaGrange.

He was born Sept. 27, 1926 in Goshen, to Sylvester and LuLu (Loy) Fisel. They preceded him in death.

In 1962, he moved from Goshen to LaGrange. Mr. Fisel was a farmer, had been in farm machinery sales and was the former owner of J&J Irrigation in LaGrange.

Mr. Fisel was a United States Navy veteran having served in World War II. He was a member of Mount Zion Lutheran Church in LaGrange, LaGrange American Legion Post 215, a 50-year member of the Meridian Sun Lodge 76 F&AM, and was a former LaGrange County 4-H fair board member and the LaGrange Moose Lodge 1351.

On April 12, 1947, he married Esther Faye Schlemmer in Noble County.  She preceded him in death Oct. 25, 1999.

He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Laura and Paul Adamson of Muncie and Grace and Larry Spero of LaGrange; a son, James P. Fisel of LaGrange; six grandchildren, Christopher Roberts, Amy Ballard, Ben Randall, Eric Fisel, Adam Fisel and Kellie Fisel; two stepgrandchildren, Matt Spero and Michelle Spero; and six great-grandchildren, Griffin Gust, Emma Ballard, Lucas Ballard, Quinn Randall, Emily Roberts and Brooke Roberts; and eight step great-grandchildren, Kyle Ballard, Kaleb Ballard, Chris Ballard, Derek Frazee, Hamilton Spero, Kasen Spero, Keanan Spero and Marcus Martinez.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Everett and Kenneth Fisel.

Visitation will be today from 3 to 7 p.m. at Frurip-May Funeral Home, 309 W. Michigan St., LaGrange, where members of Masonic Sun Lodge 76 F&AM will conduct a Masonic service at 7 p.m.

Funeral services will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. The Rev. Sandra Hutchens will officiate. Burial will follow the service at Greenwood Cemetery in LaGrange.

Memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Zion Lutheran Church or LaGrange American Legion Post 215.
