Wyla Mae Brooks

ELKHART — Wyla Mae Brooks, 85, went home to be with the Lord. She passed away peacefully in the company of her loving family on Monday at the Center for Hospice Care in Elkhart.

She was born March 1, 1928, to Gordon M. and Treva L. (Delcamp) Billet in New Carlisle.

She married Earl J. Brooks July 24, 1945, in Goshen. He passed away March 24, 1993, in Elkhart.

She is survived by her two sons, David (Barbara) Brooks of Menifee, Calif. and Dale (Gayle) Brooks of Elkhart; two daughters, Debra (Billy) Robbins and DeAnn (Brett) Schuler, both of Elkhart; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her son, Douglas E. Brooks; sisters, Emma Jean Hawn and Auburn Loucks; and three brothers, George D., Frederick J. and Richard L. Billet.

A member of the Winding Waters Brethren Church, Mrs. Brooks enjoyed attending her Bible study class. She worked as a waitress for several years and enjoyed traveling with family, spending time with grandchildren and looking at her many photo albums and talking about fun memories. She was very close to her family and was loved by many.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday and one hour prior to the 11 a.m. funeral service Saturday at Winding Waters Brethren Church, Elkhart. The Rev. Michael Thompson and her grandson, the Rev. Jason Brooks, will preside.

Burial will follow in Rice Cemetery, Elkhart.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Winding Waters Brethren Church, 420 C.R. 4 West, Elkhart, IN 46514.

Walley-Mills-Zimmerman Funeral Home, Elkhart, is assisting the family with arrangements.
