James L. ‘Jim’ Barnes

June 26, 1950-Sept. 4, 2010


SYRACUSE — James L. "Jim" Barnes, 60, passed away Saturday in Fort Wayne after a brief battle with acute myeloid leukemia which he fought with strength and courage.

He was born June 26, 1950, in Port Washington, Wis., to Leroy and Gertrude "Gert" (Lesch) Barnes.

He married Patty Connors Nov. 2, 1991.

Jim lived in Syracuse the past five years, coming from West Bend, Wis. He was most recently a sales manager for Chore Time Brock in Milford. Prior to that, he had been with Gehl Company in West Bend for 35 years.

Jim was loving husband, son, father and grandpa to "his boys." Jim was an avid hunter and golfer. He enjoyed spending time "up north" at the cabin in Wisconsin.

He is survived by his wife, Patty, of Syracuse; daughter and son-in-law, Lori and Leroy Hamilton, Sheboygan, Wis.; his two grandsons — his buddy, Logan, and his newest grandson, Layton; his mother, Gertrude "Gert" Barnes, Athelstane, Wis.; two sisters, Jane (Lee) Kimpel, Port Washington, Wis., and Judy (Bob) Gregozeski, Jackson, Wis. He is also survived by nieces and nephews, as well as many friends from Indiana and Wisconsin.

He was preceded in death by his son, Paul Barnes; his father, Leroy Barnes; and his brother, John Barnes.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place Friday at 2 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Port Washington, Wis. Calling will be two hours prior to the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society earmarked AML Research.

Eastlund Funeral Home, Syracuse, is assisting the family with arrangements.
