Don McKee

Nov. 21, 1926-June 23, 2009

NAPPANEE — Don McKee, 82, 1051 Beechwood Dr., Nappanee, died Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Harbor Manor Nursing Home, Noblesville, where he had been for five weeks. He had been ill for three months.

He was born Nov. 21, 1926 in Culver to Cortland McKee and Trula Griffith.

He married Betty Triplet on July 22, 1950, in Culver. She preceded him in death.

He graduated from Culver High School, later graduating from Manchester College and earning his Master’s Degree from Indiana University and his Administration Degree from Ball State University.

He was a World War II Army veteran.

In 1958, he moved to Nappanee, where he worked as a teacher, coach and administrator for Wa-Nee Community Schools until he retired in 1986. He had previously taught at Jimtown and Sidney Schools.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church and the Indiana State Teachers Association, and was a former member of the Moose Lodge. He was also very active with Nappanee Open Door.

Surviving are daughters Susan (Wayne) Weise, Noblesville, and Marcia McKee, Lakeland, Fla.; granddaughters Kathryn (Pete) Mast, Knoxville, Tenn., and Sarah Weise, Hartford, Conn.; great-grandson Samuel Allen Mast; brother Vern (Miriam) McKee, Culver; and sisters Mary Powers, Culver, and AnneBelle Fisher, Bremen.

He was preceded in death by brothers William Nye, Harold and Gerald McKee; and sisters Rosemary Cuomo, Betty Thomas, Julia Overmeyer and Ethel Buchanan.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee, and one hour prior to the noon service Friday at Nappanee United Methodist Church. The Rev. David Harrold will lead the service. There will also be military graveside services by the Nappanee American Legion.

Burial will be in South Union Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Nappanee United Methodist Church.
