Richard Ned Bergman

June 5, 1921 – April 28, 2012

WAKARUSA — Richard Ned Bergman, 90, of Wakarusa, passed away at 3 p.m. Saturday at Miller’s Merry Manor in Wakarusa.

He was born June 5, 1921, in Elkhart to Peter and Katherine (Klopfenstein) Bergman.

On May 29, 1954, in Jimtown, he married Goldie (Kindig) Alt.  She survives along with a step-daughter, Wanda (Richard) Walker of Jimtown; three step grandchildren, Richard Davis of Tenn., Dan Davis of Jones, Mich. and Mitchell Davis, of Jimtown; 10 step great-grandchildren and 13 step great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister-in-law, Vivian Singleton, of Osceola; two nephews, Kenneth Bergman Jr., of Elkhart and William Bergman of Anderson, Ind.; and a niece, Marjorie Corpe, of Elkhart.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.

Richard graduated from Elkhart High School in 1939. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in World War II. He was a life member of the Elkhart DAV Chapter 19 and the VFW. Richard was an avid sports fan. He was formerly employed at Martin Band Instrument Company and he retired from RBR Corp., in Mishawaka.

Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday at Zimmerman-Inman Funeral Home, Osceola Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.  Pastor Bud Walterhouse from the California Road Missionary Church will preside.  Burial will follow in Olive (West) Cemetery where the U.S. Army Funeral Honor Guard and the Elkhart DAV will render military honors.

Memorial contributions may be given to the American Heart Association.
