Harold Hays

Feb. 13, 1926-Nov. 14, 2009

RICHMOND, Ind. — Harold Hays, 83, died Saturday at his home with his family by his side.

He was born Feb. 13, 1926 in Hazard, Ky., to Stephen and Frankie Campbell Hays and had lived in the area most of his life.

He was a member of the Hillcrest Baptist Church, Richmond Senior Center and formerly a member of the Syracuse Eagles and Warsaw Moose. He was very active with the Richmond Evening Optimist, where he coached for many years. He was an avid bowler.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Delia Joan Gartrell Hays; a daughter, Karolyn (Richard) Edwards, Indianapolis; two sons, Gary (Marty Jo) Hays, Eaton, Ohio, and Gregg (Cathy) Hays, Richmond; two grandchildren, Stephanie (Jeremy) Hays-Mussoni, Richmond, and Derek (Melissa) Hays, Fairfield, Ohio; great-grandchildren, Ava Mussoni, Bella Mussoni, Lillian Hays, Nathan Strain, Quinton Strain and Katie Edwards; a brother, Glen Hays, Richmond; two sisters, Maxine (Ridley) Lifsey, Utah, and Faye (Jim) Overbay, Florida; nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Ruby Bane, John Hays, Bernice Hays, Ray Hays, Florence Rowe, Lola Wilson and Juanita Hays.

Visitation is set from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond.

The funeral is set at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Martin Holman officiating.

Burial will be in Sugar Grove Cemetery.
