ST. LOUIS, Mo. — Dorothy Pauline (Yoder) Reynolds, 99, died Sunday in St. Louis.
She was born Oct. 29, 1910 near Ligonier, Ind., to Harley P. and Mary Ann (Renner) Yoder. After the death of her mother in 1919, Dorothy was raised by Vernon and Addah Kauffman. She was adopted by Kauffman and his second wife, Verda Plank.
Dorothy graduated in 1928 from Topeka High School, Topeka, Ind., and in 1932 from Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, South Bend, Ind.
She married Kenneth Clayton Reynolds, son of Clyde Ellsworth and Minnie M. (Traul) Reynolds, in 1935 in South Bend. Dorothy and Kenneth were members of Southlawn United Methodist Church, South Bend.
Dorothy was employed by Memorial Hospital and Health System of South Bend, from 1932 to 1975, where she served the majority of her adult life as nursing supervisor for the postpartum obstetrics department and as nursing instructor for Memorial Hospital’s School of Nursing.
Following the death of her husband, Kenneth, in 1980, she married Leroy Newton in South Bend. They moved to Sebring, Fla. where he died in 1987. In 1990, Dorothy moved to Friendship Village, Chesterfield, where she lived until her death.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husbands, Kenneth and Leroy; her parents; her foster parents; her stepmother, Deliah Yoder; her brothers, Elmo Yoder, Virgil Yoder, Paul Yoder Mullett, and Glenn, Myron and Loyal Yoder, who died early in life.
Dorothy is survived by her son, James A. (Jeanne) Reynolds, Town and Country; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a nephew; and five nieces.
Services are planned for 3 p.m. Saturday at Friendship Village, Chesterfield. Interment will be in Oak Grove Chapel, St. Louis.
