The Rev. John H. Blosser

The Rev. John H. Blosser, 88, 1325 Greencroft Drive, Goshen, died Sunday at 11:20 p.m. at Goshen General Hospital where he had been a patient since Nov. 13.

He was born Nov. 11, 1921 in Corapolis, Pa., to J. Mark and Ella Mabel (Brechbill) Blosser.

He married Helen Marie Kemmerer June 16, 1945, in Allentown, Pa. She survives. He died a rich man, as he believed his wealth was in his beloved wife of 64 years, Helen Marie, and their four children.

Survivors include his daughter, Ruthann (Martin) Longcor, Shipshewana; three sons, Daniel Lee (Rose Ellen) Blosser, Cambodia, John Mark (Deborah) Blosser, Swaziland, and Joel Richard (Barb) Blosser, Goshen; two sisters, Betty (Don) Young, Berne, and Rosemary (Paul) Fry, Goshen; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his two brothers, Paul M. Blosser and Fred B. Blosser.

He served as a missionary for 38 years: 30 years in India; seven years in Sri Lanka; and one year in Guam. He gave 30 years of his life serving Jesus in West Bengal, India, and Santali, becoming fluent in their languages and gaining lifelong friendships.

He was a member of Brenneman Memorial Missionary Church, Goshen, where he served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher and senior citizens pastor. After retirement, many felt his love and encouragement through his service as crossing guard at Riverdale Elementary School, located at the corner of Indiana Avenue and Wilkinson Street in Goshen. He was chairman of JOY, a senior citizens group of the North Central District of the Missionary Church.

Friends may call today from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Rieth-Rohrer-Ehret Funeral Home, Goshen, and from 10 a.m. until the 11:30 a.m. funeral service Wednesday at Brenneman Memorial Missionary Church, 61115 Ind. 15 North, Goshen. The Revs. John Moran, Martin Longcor and Daniel Mark Blosser will lead the service.

Burial will be in Violett Cemetery, Goshen.
