Donald E. Stump

Oct. 12, 1923-Nov. 7, 2009

NAPPANEE — Donald E. Stump, 86, formerly of 71341 C.R. 7, died Sunday at 11:45 p.m. at Goshen General Hospital after a short illness.

He was born Oct. 12, 1923 in Nappanee, to Clayton and Hazel (DeFrees) Stump. He was a lifetime area resident.

He served in the U.S. Army in the Philippines during World War II. He received the Philippines Liberation Medal.

He was a retired farmer and also built truck campers. He was a member of the First Brethren Church, Nappanee American Legion and AMVETS. He enjoyed camping in his motor home.

He married Eloise Tobias Feb. 22, 1942, in Nappanee. She preceded him in death Jan. 3, 2003.

He is survived by his sons, Rodney (Maribeth) Stump, Mark (Ronda) Stump, and Clark (Kay) Stump, all of Nappanee; daughter, Judith (John) Klotz, Nappanee; grandchildren, Rodney (Patty) Stump, Andrew (Brigette) Stump, Aaron (Michelle) Mast, Dawn (Roger) Lehman, all of Nappanee; Chastity (Jason) Grise, Goshen, Amy (Tim) Golden, Indianapolis, and Brad Stump, Mishawaka; two stepgrandchildren; great-grandchildren, Daric, Joshua and Kaitylin Stump, Grant and Sarah Stump, Kelsey, Brooklyn and Jacob Lehman, Emerson, Cole and Wyatt Mast, all of Nappanee; Ian and Bailey Grise, Goshen; a brother, Dale (Glenice) Stump, Milford; and close friend and companion, Betty Searfoss, Nappanee.

Friends may call today from 4 to 8 p.m. at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee, and one hour prior to the noon funeral service Wednesday at First Brethren Church, Nappanee. The Revs. Tom Schiefer and Bart Shaw, pastor and associate pastor of the church, will lead the service.

Burial will be in South Union Cemetery. Military graveside services will be conducted by the Nappanee American Legion.

Memorials may be made to the First Brethren Church.
