Arthur Dale Bickel
June 24, 1936-Nov. 20, 2009
Arthur Dale Bickel, 73, of Sun City Grand in Surprise, Ariz., passed away at his home Nov. 20 after battling a very aggressive cancer.
Art was born on June 24, 1936, in Goshen, Ind., and was preceded in death by his parents, Harold S. and Lula Roller Bickel.
His two sons, Brent Bickel and Bryan Bickel; his grandson, Austin Bickel; his sister, Betty Bickel Schooley and her husband Roger Schooley, Crystal River, Fla.; and his ex-wife, Marilyn Hughes Waldrop, survive him.
Art graduated from Goshen High School in 1954, joined the Marines, and after his discharge, graduated from International Business School, Fort Wayne, Ind., with a degree in accounting. He was an entrepreneur and property investor in that area. After selling his business, he and his family moved to Arizona in 1978, where he lived in Paradise Valley and Scottsdale Country Club before moving to Surprise seven years ago.
Art was an avid sportsman, enjoying hunting and fishing, especially in Alaska, as well as tennis and golf. He was a Suns fan until the end, rarely missing a game.
His family and friends will miss his warmth, generosity, and his sense of humor. He was a very caring and exceptional man who left those who love him much too soon.
Please join his family and those who love him to honor his life at an informal memorial service to take place Friday at 3 p.m. at Regency Mortuary located at 9850 W. Thunderbird Road, Sun City, Ariz.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Art’s name to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower St., Phoenix, AZ 85014.
