Gerald E. ‘Bud’ Cook

Aug. 3, 1923-June 27, 2012

ELKHART — Gerald E. “Bud” Cook, 88, Elmhurst Drive, Elkhart, died Wednesday at 3:10 a.m. at his residence.

He was born Aug. 3, 1923, in Elkhart, to Florence (Sweazy) and John E. Cook. He married Avanelle (Perry) Cook Oct. 8, 1949, in Bremen. She survives.

Cook was a 1942 graduate of Concord High School and a 1954 graduate of Indiana University. A World War II veteran who served in the Army Air Force before being discharged in 1945, Cook also worked for the state board of accounts and Alice Tool and Die as a CPA. He attended Zion Missionary Church, Elkhart. He loved to go to the spa and spent lots of time at the lake at North Webster. He enjoyed all sports, with baseball being his favorite.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his three children, John (Nancy) Cook, Goshen, Martha L. Cook, Elkhart, and Carl E. (JoAnn) Cook, Wakarusa; a sister, Betty Sailor, Elkhart; two brothers, Stanley (Joan) Cook, and Richard (Dr. Diane) Cook, both of Elkhart; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Norma Schwalm Facey.

Graveside services will take place Saturday at 11 a.m. at Olive (West) Cemetery, with the Revs. Joe Wenger, Dale Turner, Brad Cook and Dave Ashley officiating.

Memorial contributions may be sent to Zion Missionary Church, the Indiana Parkinson Foundation, Faith Mission or Elkhart Hospice.
