GOSHEN — Betty Rose Elliott, 87, died Saturday evening at Courtyard Healthcare.
She was born Feb. 8, 1925, in Fort Wayne, to John and Fannie Mae (Tyson) Mecum. She married William H. Elliott Nov. 9, 1946, in Goshen. He died in 1995.
She is survived by two sons, John (Janet) and Jack (Jane) Elliott, a daughter, Janet (Rick) Clark, and a daughter-in-law, Anna Elliott, all of Goshen; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers, Stan Mecum, Des Allemands, La., and Herbert Mecum, Calif.; and a sister, Patricia Mecum, Goshen.
She was preceded in death by her parents; stepmother, Dorothy Blough Mecum; a son, Jim Elliott in 1995; and a granddaughter, Jodie Clark in 2003.
A longtime Goshen resident, Mrs. Elliott worked as a nurses’ aide for many years at Goshen General Hospital and as a Home Health Aide for Elkhart County Health Department before retiring. She had also worked for Richmond Wholesale.
She attended West Goshen Church of the Brethren and had volunteered as a Cub Scout Den Mother for 10 years while raising her four children. While at Greencroft she enjoyed singing with a group, participating in Bible study and playing Bingo.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and one hour prior to the 10 a.m. Wednesday funeral service at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, Goshen. Pastor Norm Replogle, West Goshen Church of the Brethren, will officiate. Burial will follow in West Goshen Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Jodie Clark Scholarship Fund at Goshen High School or West Goshen Church of the Brethren.
