Sylvia Rhinesmith Newcomer

May 15, 1927-Oct. 7, 2012

South Hutchinson, Kan — Sylvia Rhinesmith Newcomer, 85, passed away Sunday at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center, Hutchinson.  

She was born May 15, 1927 in Hutchinson, the daughter of Fred and Rebecca Schrock Miller.  

She had worked for Superior Sample for a number of years and then for Monsanto until she retired in 1990.  She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Topeka, Ind. She was an animal lover and was known for her sense of humor and love of playing games.  

In 1947 she married Robert Rhinesmith at Cosperville, Ind. He passed away in 1973.  

In 1988 she married Raymond Newcomer in Syracuse, Ind. He passed away in 2010.  

She is survived by a daughter, Sherry (Gene) Rhinesmith Wells of Antioch, Ill.; son, Jerry (Sue) Rhinesmith of Booneville, Mo.; three sisters, Sue (Bob)  Weiting of Sturgis, Mich., Verna Yoder and Fern Lemler, both of Hutchinson; four grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.  

She was preceded in death by an infant son and a sister, Pearl Troyer.  

Funeral services will take place at 10:30 a.m. today at Mennonite Manor Chapel, South Hutchinson, with the Rev. Todd Schlosser officiating.  A graveside service is set for Friday at 3 p.m. at Oak Park Cemetery, Ligonier, Ind., with the Rev. Larry Baker officiating.
