Harry James Shaver

GOSHEN — Harry James Shaver, 93, died Tuesday morning with his family at his bedside. He was residing at Courtyard Healthcare in Goshen, where he had been in failing health for the past year.

He was born May 18, 1919 to Isaac Howell and Cecile (Elkey) Shaver, in White Fish Bay, Wis. He moved to Goshen in 1937, where he met and married his wife, Mary Elizabeth Fryman on July 20, 1938. She preceded him in death on Oct. 2, 2007.

Harry is survived by two daughters, Virginia (Terry A.) Miller, New Paris, and Janie (Dr. Jeffrey) Coppes, Mishawaka; a son, Jim (Sharon) Shaver, Milford; six grandchildren, Tom Miller, Teri Ann Denta, Gregory J. Shaver, Jeffrey Shaver, Cori Brown and Kenny Sweet; and five great-grandchildren.

Also preceding him in death were his parents; three brothers, John, William and Isaac Shaver; and a sister, Ruth Shaver.

Harry was a custom cabinet builder, who owned his own shop, Shaver Manufacturing Company. After he sold the business, he worked in upper management at several RV companies in the area. He retired from Travelcraft of Elkhart. He also worked a number of years at Franklin Coach in Nappanee and purchased and owned and operated Covered Wagon in New Paris.

Harry was involved in many activities. He was active at the First Brethren Church of New Paris, the New Paris Fire Department and was a charter member of New Paris Lions Club. He enjoyed traveling and took many trips to Hawaii and Florida. He also collected records, model trains and had a love for creating stained glass.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the 11 a.m. service Saturday at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, Goshen. The Rev. Jeff Estep of the First Brethren Church will officiate.

Burial will follow at New Paris Cemetery. Terry Miller, Dr. Jeffrey Coppes, B.J. Denta, Tom Miller, Jeff Shaver and Andrew Denta will serve as pallbearers.

Memorial contributions may be made to First Brethren Church, New Paris.
