Maxine Kauffman

March 9, 1925-Oct. 11, 2012

GOSHEN — Maxine Kauffman, 87, peacefully passed away to her heavenly home Thursday morning at Greencroft Healthcare.

She was born in Goshen March 9, 1925, to Alvin and Alma (Showalter) Kauffman.

She is survived by a brother, Dana (Carol) Kauffman, Millersburg; a sister, Gladys (James) Hershberger, Goshen; and nine nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Jennie (Ralph) Pletcher and Loa Miller.

She attended Clinton Community School, Millersburg High School, Goshen College and three summers at Ball State University. Her teaching included 36 years at Millersburg Elementary School, a year with Navajo Indians in New Mexico and Arizona and three summers at Laurelville Mennonite Camp.

The enjoyment of volunteer service led her to Meals on Wheels, Oaklawn Auxiliary, Indiana-Michigan Mennonite Conference, Mennonite Mission Network and Greencroft Caring Friends.

Nature, quilting, music and mission outreach were among her interests.

Maxine was a lifelong member of Clinton Brick Mennonite Church, Goshen.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, Goshen.

Burial at Clinton Brick Cemetery will take place at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday followed by a 10:30 a.m. memorial service at Clinton Brick Mennonite Church. The Rev. Dave Hathaway will officiate.

Memorial contributions may be made to Mennonite Mission Network, Greencroft Foundation or Clinton Brick Mennonite Church.
