Jacquelyn “Jackie” Elizabeth Ummel

Aug. 25, 1929-Nov. 1, 2012

LEO —  Jacquelyn “Jackie” Elizabeth Ummel, 83, Leo, formerly of Curitiba, Parana, Brazil, South America, passed away 6:45 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Hospital, Fort Wayne.

She was born Aug. 25, 1929 in Owen Sound, Ontario, Canada to Thomas E. and Carolyn A. McReynolds. She married Richard L. Ummel on Aug. 22, 1952 and he died Sept. 8, 1981.

Surviving are a daughter, C. Anita (Roger) Ummel Riquelme, Paraguay; son, Michael L. (Joanne) Ummel, Leo; daughters-in-law, Vikki Ummel (John) Frieden, Kansas City, Mo., Brenda (Ted) Ummel, Argos; brother, Floyd McReynolds, Ariz.; grandchildren, Rachel (Justin) Dillard, Phillip Ummel, Tracy Ummel, Ryan Ummel, Ricardo Riquelme, Miguel Riquelme, Michelle Riquelme, Alexis Ummel, Jeremy Ummel, Madelyn Ummel; and a great-granddaughter, Victoria Brown.

Preceding her in death are her husband, sons, Richard L. Ummel, Jr. and T. Edward Ummel; brothers, Roland, Ted, James McReynolds; sisters, Florence Richards and Margaret Mahoney.

Jackie was a 1947 graduate of Owen Sound Collegiate Vocational Institute, a 1950 graduate of Kitchener Waterloo School of Nursing and attended Bethel College from 1951 to 1952. She was a missionary in Brazil from 1956 to 1996 and a member of the Missionary Church.

A celebration of life will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday at the Wakarusa Missionary Church and one hour prior to the memorial service at 11 a.m. Saturday. The Rev. Ron Williams, Pathway Community Church, Fort Wayne will officiate.

Burial will be at Yellow Creek Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to World Partners of the Missionary Church.
