Frederick ‘Fritz’ Allen Myers

Aug. 8, 1924-Oct. 9, 2012

GOSHEN — Frederick “Fritz” Allen Myers, 88, formerly of South Whitley, went to be with the Lord at 7:40 p.m. Tuesday at Courtyard Healthcare Center, Goshen, where he had been a resident since July.

He was born Aug. 8, 1924 in Bippus, a son of Irvin R. and Almeda (Zeigler) Myers. In 1933, the family moved to Cleveland Township, Whitley County. He attended South Whitley High School.

On Aug. 4, 1946, he was united in marriage to Evelyn M. Bolinger. They made their home in the South Whitley area. In 2012, they moved to Goshen.

Fritz spent his work career as a farmer. At age 45, he went to work for Farmer’s Elevator at South Whitley for 20 years, retiring in 1989. In 1961, he received the Conservation Farmer Award from the Whitley County Soil and Water Conservation District for his conservation planning on his 160-acre farm named “Contour Acres.” He was also recognized as Outstanding Neighborhood Soils and Crops Manager of 1959 for his efforts in raising the productivity of his land. He loved farming, fishing and spending time with his family.

His memberships included Collamer Christian Church.

Surviving relatives include his wife of 66 years, Evelyn; two daughters, Shirley (George) Dyer and Patty (Garry) Thompson, both of Elkhart; four grandchildren, Shane (Kari) Dyer of Elkhart, Jenny (Doug) McGee of Beijing, China, Ryan Thompson of Denver, Colo., and Corrine Thompson (Simeon Hoover) of Elkhart; great-grandchildren, Breya Wilkens and Karisa Dyer, both of Elkhart, and Eli, Enoch and Eva McGee of Beijing, China.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, J. Edward Myers.

The funeral service will begin at 4 p.m. today at Smith & Sons Miller Chapel, South Whitley, with visitation from 1 p.m. until the time of the service. The Rev. David Wagner will officiate.

Burial will be in the South Whitley Cemetery.

Preferred memorials may be made to Starfish Projects, Goshen, or Collamer Christian Church.
