DECATUR — Carl L. Lichtenberger, 79, of rural Decatur died on Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at Van Wert Inpatient Hospice Center in Van Wert, Ohio. Carl was born in Van Wert County on May 27, 1932 to the late William H. and Ina M. (Finkhousen) Lichtenberger. On April 18, 1954 Carl married Annabelle M. Shaffer.
Carl was a member of the formal Decatur Missionary Church and attended Mt. Zion U.B. Church in Bobo. He retired in 1994 from Central Soya/Bunge after 44 years of service and was also a carpenter and farmer. Carl also served his country during the Korean War in the United States Army.
Survivors include his wife, Annabelle M. Lichtenberger of Decatur; three sons, Timothy C. (Mary Ann) Lichtenberger of Decatur, Mark L. Lichtenberger of Michigan City, and Johnathan L. (Shareen) Lichtenberger of Wren, Ohio; two daughters Rebecca A. (Terry) Reichard of Van Wert, Ohio and Leah L. Lichtenberger (Lowell Penner) of Millersburg; two brothers Lloyd F. Lichtenberger of Berne, and Raymond Lichtenberger of York, S.C.; three sisters, Fern Walker of Van Wert, Ohio, Betty Beer of Richburg, S.C., and Kathryn Sanders of Grapeland, Texas; four grandchildren Timothy, Holly, Lauren and Amber and one great grandson Cole. He was preceded in death by a grandchild Lydia Rose in infancy, a brother Lawrence and a sister Mary Double.
Services were held on Monday, May 21, 2012 at Haggard-Sefton & Hirschy Funeral Home in Decatur. Burial was in East Salem Cemetery rural Decatur.
Memorials are to Cornerstone Church, Mt. Zion U.B. Church or Van Wert Inpatient Hospice Center.
