Dorothy E. Bigler

Aug. 24, 1923-May 31, 2012

GOSHEN — Dorothy E. Bigler, 88, died Thursday afternoon at Courtyard Healthcare.

She was born Aug. 24, 1923 in Goshen, to Leo and Ethel (Bowman) Whirledge.  

She married James W. Bigler, Jan. 31, 1948 in Middlebury. He died June 2, 2011.

She is survived by two daughters, Connie Myers and Judy (Nevin) Honderich, both of Goshen; two sons, Steven (Nancy) Bigler, Goshen, and Timothy (Jerrie) Bigler, Kirksey, Ky.; five grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a brother, Willis (Cheri) Whirledge, Millersburg.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Grace Darr, Violet Mehl and Elizabeth Daniels; three brothers, Calvin, Ernest and Ellis Whirledge; and a great-grandson.

A homemaker and lifelong Goshen resident, Mrs. Bigler was a member of First English Lutheran Church, Goshen.

Friends may call from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, Goshen,  where a 10 a.m. funeral service will be conducted Monday.  Pastor Gene Hollingsworth of First English Lutheran Church will officiate.

Burial will follow at Violett Cemetery, Goshen.

Memorial contributions may be made to Courtyard Healthcare or American Diabetes Association.
