Gertrude Marie Gilson

Nov. 11, 1921-Nov. 19, 2012

SYRACUSE —  Gertrude Marie Gilson, 91, of Middlebury, died at 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 19, at her residence.

She was born on Nov. 11, 1921, in Hartville, Ohio, to Daniel D. and Emma (Hochstetler) Troyer. On July 6, 1939 in New Castle, Pa., she married William Glenn Gilson. He died Oct. 17, 1983.

Surviving are five daughters, Virginia (Willie) Barfield of Pelham, Ga., Marjorie (Moses) Troyer of Goshen, Laura (Jeff) Zimmerman of Middlebury, Dorothy (Robert) Hall of Astor, Fla., Janet Hall of Rome, Ohio; four sons, Robert (YaVonne) Gilson of San Antonio, Texas, William (Debra) Gilson of Shipshewana, Daniel (Tonna) Gilson of Syracuse, David Gilson of Middlebury; 40 grandchildren, 79 great grandchildren, 27 great-great grandchildren; two brothers, Valentine (Lizzie) Troyer and Eli Troyer both of Middlefield, Ohio.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and four grandchildren, Robert Hall, Lisa Hall, Ryan Gilson and Colby Gilson; a great-grandchild, Carson Boley; five brothers, Mose, Mike, David, Albert and William Troyer; and a sister, Susan Troyer.

She had worked in the kitchen at Goshen General Hospital from 1979 to 1990, enjoyed crocheting, plastic craft needlepoint, embroidery, quilting and visiting and playing with her grandchildren. She attended Griner Mennonite Church and had accepted Christ as her Savior in 1947. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 23, at Miller-Stewart Funeral Home, 1003 S. Main St., Middlebury. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 24, at Griner Mennonite Church, Middlebury.  Services will be conducted by the Rev. John Yoder and the Rev. Robert Riegsecker.

Burial will be in Miller Cemetery, Goshen. Memorial contributions can be made to Goldenrod or the Galilean Home. Online condolences can be sent at millerstewartfuneralhome.com.
