Magdalena ‘Lena’ Barkman

Aug. 17, 1924-Jan. 14, 2013

TOPEKA — Magdalena “Lena” Barkman, 88, died at 2:45 p.m. Monday at Parkview Hospital, LaGrange.

In Mark Center Nov. 28, 1944, she married Monroe Barkman, who survives.

Also surviving are six daughters, Mary Jane (Wilbur) Miller, Middlebury, Martha (Dave) Schmucker, Millersburg, Magdalena Ann (Toby T.) Troyer, Waneta (John R.) Miller, Carolyn (David W.) Nissley and Norma Jean (Freeman) Bontrager, all of Topeka; and three sons, Samuel Jay (Rose) Barkman, Wolcottville,  William Henry Barkman, Topeka, and Monroe (Rachel) Barkman Jr., Ligonier.

Friends may call after 2 p.m. Tuesday and all day Wednesday at the Freeman Bontrager residence, 3365 W. 550 South, Topeka.

Funeral services will begin at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the Crist M. Miller residence, 5780 S. 300 West, Topeka.

Burial will be in Miller Cemetery, LaGrange.

Miller-Stewart Funeral Home, Middlebury, is assisting the family with arrangements.
