Paul E. Shaum

GOSHEN — Paul E. Shaum, 93, died early Thursday morning at Greencroft Goshen Health Care.

He was born Feb. 16, 1919 in Goshen, to Isaiah and Lizzie (Weaver) Shaum.

He married Lodema Harter March 1, 1941 in Elkhart. She died July 10, 1963.

He married Ruth E. Schlabach in Goshen, April 17, 1965. She survives.

Also surviving are four daughters, Norma (Bradley) Chatfield, Marietta, Ga., Marolyn Millar, Carolyn (Rich) Coodens and Elizabeth (Randy) Noland, all of South Bend; three sons, Steven Shaum, Nappanee, Randall (Jean) Shaum, Two Rivers, Wis., and Jerrol (Mary Ann Weber) Shaum, Goshen; 12 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Phyllis Keller; a grandson, Adam Shaum; eight sisters; and five brothers.

He was a member of Benton Mennonite Church and instrumental in starting Hudson Lake Mennonite Church and Prairieview Missionary Church.

A finish carpenter, Mr. Shaum worked for Portage Realty and Brown & Brown Construction. He loved to garden and was a talented wood worker.

Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, 1911 S. Main St., Goshen.

A meal will be served at 11 a.m. Monday prior to the 12:30 p.m. funeral service at Benton Mennonite Church, 15350 C.R. 44, Goshen. The Revs. Brenda Meyer and Doug Kaufman will officiate.

Burial will follow in Olive West Cemetery, Elkhart.

Memorial contributions may be given to World Missionary Press or Goshen Care at Home Hospice.
