Helen L. Miller

March 10, 1928-Feb. 2, 2013

ELKHART —  Helen Louise Miller, 84, a life-long resident of Elkhart, died Saturday at 8:10 a.m. at Emeritus at Arborwood, Granger.

She was born March 10, 1928, in Elkhart, to Harvey J. and Bertha (Brubaker) Cook. In September 1945, she married S. Ray Miller, Jr. They divorced.

Surviving are a daughter, Cynthia (Norman) Miller-Gierkey, Niles, Mich.; two grandsons, Joshua (Jessica) Haines, Raleigh, N.C., and John (Brooke) Haines, Indianapolisl; a granddaughter, Charity Haines (Garrett Smith), Chicago, Ill.; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Willis and Donald Cook; and a sister, Ruth Hunsberger.

Helen was a devoted mother, grandmother and a member of Dunlap United Methodist Church. She was a 1946 graduate of Jimtown High School, a member of the Elkhart General Hospital Auxiliary, the Four Arts Club, Elkhart, and a docent at Ruthmere Museum, Elkhart, for years.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Rieth-Rohrer-Ehret Funeral Home, Goshen, where the funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Dale Hunsberger will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association. The family would like to express sincere thanks to Emeritus at Arborwood and Harbor Light Hospice for mom’s great care.
