Dean E. Switalski

April 26, 1952-Nov. 14, 2012

ELKHART — Dean E. Switalski, 60, passed away Wednesday at his home.

He was born April 26, 1952, in South Bend, to Clifford and Virginia (Allen) Smeltzer.

On June 24, 1977, he married Debra Kay Sloan in Goshen. She survives along with two brothers, Roland Switalski, Sugar Grove, Ill., and George (Susan) Smeltzer, Nineville; three sisters, Dixie (Robert) Mason, Mishawaka, Celia (Glen) Biers-Bontregger, Mars Hill, N.C., and Vivian Allen, North Webster. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Nelson Allen.  

Dean was a United States Army veteran. He enjoyed computers, loved animals and collecting firefighter memorabilia. He was a volunteer firefighter with the Cleveland Township Fire Department and was a licensed minister.

Visitation for family and friends will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Walley-Mills-Zimmerman Funeral Home, Elkhart, where funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. Monday. Pastor Brent Poe of Beulah Missionary Church will preside.

Burial will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, where members of the Cleveland Township Fire Department will render firefighter rites.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Cleveland Township Fire Department.
