Lloyd Miller, 66, sells insurance through Mutual Aid Ministries in Goshen. He was the chairman of the committee that established the first Week of Compassion in Goshen. That event is a week of activities geared toward raising money and supporting local residents who need food, medical and shelter aid.
How long have you lived in the
Goshen area?
I moved into the community when I was in the third grade (1953). I have lived in Elkhart County most of my life.
What schools did you attend?
Model Elementary School, first graduating class of Elkhart Township Junior High School (now Goshen Middle School), Goshen High School, Associated Mennonite Biblical Seminaries.
What is your fondest memories of this
community?
Playing Little League baseball; the positive/proactive ways in which the community responded to the Ku Klux Klan rally a number of years ago; the parks and recreation programs and development of outdoor facilities.
Describe what you feel is the essence
of this community.
Creativity (i.e. First Fridays); development of our downtown; local ministries who care for those with needs; vibrant churches.
What about this community would you
like to improve?
Continue to show compassion toward those living in less fortunate life circumstances.
What are this community’s best-kept secret?
The quality of our residents. The ability to adapt and adjust to changing times. A forward-looking government-community relationship.
